Speck Products: Complete Device Protection

Tech / Gadgets Speck Products

What do you look for in a phone case, or any device protection for that matter? For me it's function first, durability second, and style third.

The problem with finding the right product is over saturation. The market is flooded with options (especially if you own an iPhone), and it's unnerving to spend hard-earned money on something you're unsure will last for the full lifetime or at least a good portion of your device's lifetime.

That's when I came across Speck. I'd heard about the brand by word of mouth but never really explored its goods for one reason or another.

Around the same time I was looking at cases, Glam.com editor Cara Chronis and I had the opportunity to sit down with a Lindsay Aamodt from Speck Products to get an in-depth look at the line. Speck was founded in 2001 by a group of California-based engineers interested in crafting the best device protection on the market.

One of the more popular styles, called CandyShell, combines a hard, glossy exterior with a rubberized interior for dual protection. Upon impact the hard exterior absorbs the initial shockwave and the softer rubberized inner shell disperses remaining impact energy. If it's good enough for the military, it's good enough for everyday use.

It's slim, easy to pull out of my pocket, and barely adds any bulk to the phone. If anything, the case makes the phone more enjoyable to hold. I especially like how the rubberized interior is molded into the hard outer shell. Installation was quick and easy with the CandyShell, and you can have the phone in and out of the case in seconds.

Of course the CandyShell isn't Speck's only offering. The company also produces cases with grip, card and money slots, headphone slots, and more. I also had the opportunity to check out the CandyShell Card case for the Samsung Galaxy S4, a phone case and wallet in one. If you're in need of the ideal case for concerts, air travel, or other functions where pocket space is limited, this is the answer. Up to three cards and a little cash slip easily into the back of the case and remain secure.

If you're looking for a dependable case that can stand up to some of life's minor mishaps, I highly recommend Speck products. With the brand's wide range of cases for nearly every device on the market, you have a great shot at finding a case that meets your standards, just as I found one that met mine.
